Benito Skinner’s ‘Overcompensating’ Secures Series Order on Prime Video

Prime Video has greenlit the series “Overcompensating,” created and starred in by Benito Skinner. The show, in development at Amazon since November 2022, is a collaboration with Jonah Hill’s Strong Baby productions and A24. Notably, English singer-songwriter Charli XCX will contribute original music to the series, co-produced by A24 and Amazon MGM Studios.

Inspired by Skinner’s life, “Overcompensating” unfolds as a college-set ensemble comedy. The narrative follows Benny (Skinner), a closeted former football player and homecoming king, who forms a fast friendship with Carmen, a high school outsider determined to fit in at any cost.

With guidance from Benny’s older sister and her campus-legend boyfriend, the duo navigates the challenges of college life, including awkward hookups, flavored vodka, and fake IDs. The series, deeply funny and personal, explores the humorous lengths individuals go to while discovering their true selves.

Overcompensating prime video

Skinner, known for his viral characters and sketches as Benny Drama, will write and executive produce alongside Jonah Hill, Matt Dines, and Ali Goodwin of Strong Baby. Charli XCX takes on the role of executive music producer. “Overcompensating” is set to exclusively stream on Prime Video in over 240 countries and territories globally.

Nick Pepper, Head of U.S. SVOD Wholly Owned Development at Amazon MGM Studios, expressed excitement about bringing Benny’s captivating and inspiring story to Prime Video viewers. The series is anticipated to blend laugh-out-loud moments with original music from Charli XCX, promising a compelling viewing experience. Skinner, known for his collaborations with A-listers, is set to showcase his comedic talent in this highly-anticipated series.
