Outlander Star Ventures into Whiskey World with The Warchief Bourbon

Renowned for his roles as Dougal MacKenzie and William ‘Buck’ MacKenzie on the hit TV series Outlander, Graham McTavish is making waves in the spirits industry with the introduction of his very own creation: The Warchief, a bottled-in-bond seven-year-old Bourbon.

Taking to his personal Instagram account, the Scottish actor, also recognized for his appearances in The Hobbit films and The Witcher Netflix series, shared his excitement about the launch.

He humorously noted,

“It’s seven year bottled-in-bond Bourbon whiskey, which very modestly has my name on it.”

Reflecting on his journey from Scotland to America, McTavish described the new venture as the:

“distillation of that experience.”

The Warchief Bourbon claims the distinction of being the first celebrity-backed bottled-in-bond Bourbon. A certification established in the late 19th century. This classification guarantees that the whiskey was crafted by a single distillery, aged for a minimum of four years in a bonded warehouse, and bottled at 100 proof (50% ABV).

On the palate, The Warchief offers a symphony of flavors, boasting “a sweet aroma of vanilla with a hint of caramel & chocolate on the nose,” attributed to the corn mash. Rye lends notes of “cinnamon, fruit cake, and baking spices,” while subtle spice and dark cherry dance on the back of the palate, and “sweet vanilla” graces the tip of the tongue.

Named after character Dougal MacKenzie’s title of ‘war chieftain’ of Clan MacKenzie, The Warchief Bourbon is now available for $75.

This venture aligns McTavish with his Outlander co-star Sam Heughan, who recently expanded his Sassenach spirits brand to include a single malt whisky, Tequila, and gin.

The two also co-wrote the bestselling book Clanlands: Whisky, Warfare, and a Scottish Adventure Like No Other, as well as starred in the captivating documentary road trip series, Men in Kilts.
